Die Arbeiterbewegung unternahm in den Jahren vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg erhebliche Anstrengungen, einer Eskalation der Internationalen Politik entgegen zu wirken. Tatsächlich mussten im jeweiligen historisch-politischen Kontext ihrer Zeit zahlreiche einflussreiche Theoretiker:innen der Linken, die beispielsweise strikt gegen einen Waffengang der Europäischen Mächte eintraten, den Standpunkt vertreten, Gewalt sei „[dort das] Mittel der Offensive […], wo das gesetzliche Terrain des Klassenkampfes erst zu erobern ist.“ (Rosa Luxemburg, 1902). Vor dem Hintergrund dieses scheinbaren Widerspruches geht die geplante Konferenz in Wien der Frage nach linken Positionen zu Gewalt im 19. Und 20. Jahrhundert nach.

“What is your take on violence?”
On a crucial question of the international Left in its historical-political context

In the years leading up to the First World War, the international labor movement made considerable efforts to counteract an escalation in international politics. In fact, however, in the respective historical-political context of their time, numerous influential left-wing theorists, who, for example, strictly opposed an armed conflict of the European powers, had to take the position that violence was “[the] means of the offensive [...] where the legal terrain of the class struggle has yet to be conquered.” (Rosa Luxemburg, 1902). Against the background of this apparent contradiction, the planned conference in Vienna will examine left-wing positions on violence in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Neue entdeckte Rosa-Luxemburg-Briefe

In Frankreich sind kürzlich von Julien Chuzeville von ihm neu entdeckte Rosa Luxemburg Briefe an Jules Guèsde veröffentlicht worden: https://www.jean-jaures.org/publication/rosa-luxemburg-lettres-inedites/
Es handelt sich einmal um einen Brief vom 21.10. 1898, zum anderen um ein Fragment, das zu einem Brief vom 27.1.1913 gehört, dessen 1. Seite im IISG Amsterdam, also unvollständig, liegt. Diese 1. Seite des Briefes vom 27.1.1913 ist in R. Luxemburg: Gesammelte Briefe 6, S. 187 in einer ins Deutsche übersetzten Fassung enthalten. Im Original sind beide Briefe auf Französisch.
